Whistler Wedding-Nita Lake Lodge

When K&J contacted me to be their wedding photographer at Nita Lake Lodge in Whistler BC, I was so stoked! For those who don't know I lived in Whistler for almost a decade and to say it was a dream venue of mine would be an understatement. I always hoped to return as a wedding photographer and get to capture couples in the many incredible venues.

Due to Covid19 K&J had to postpone their wedding multiple times, eventually they got sick of waiting for the world to change so they had a pandemic elopement. Finally restrictions eased up and venues were allowed to accomodate weddings again so they went ahead with their postponed wedding venue date to celebrate with their loved ones.

Because they had already done the deed the year previous, the day was a mix of traditional and nontraditional wedding traditions. We started the day in the fabulous penthouse suite with the two of them getting ready together.

Bride & Groom Portraits at Nita Lake Lodge.

Unfortunately the weather was not cooperating with us, literally the first rainy day in months and it was a torrential downpour for most of it. But lucky for us we had a weather window just in time for portraits before the ceremony! The thing I loved about Nita Lake Lodge for a wedding was the fact that you don't have to leave the resort for photos. There are so many stunning photo opportunities on or very near to the property.

We headed to the covered bridge first as when we first set out the rain was still in action.

The rain eventually stopped and we checked out the lake and docks in front of the lodge for some scenic shots. The clouds were still heavy and low so we didn't get the stunning mountain backdrops but even on a moody day it was stunning.

The Porte-Cochère at Nita Lake Lodge

After some luck with dry portraits it was time to head back to the suite to meet the parents and a few close friends to do final prep for the ceremony. I took this opportunity to head down to the venue for a few detailed shots of the ceremony location before go time at The famous Porte-Cochere at Nita Lake Lodge. This ceremony location is breathtaking. K & J decided to have a nontraditional/traditional ceremony. Because they were already married but never got the chance to walk down the aisle and exchange vows in front of loved ones, they did a short and sweet ceremony which included a lovely poem read by K&J's friend acting as commissioner and a "first kiss". It was all perfect.

The reception began on the outside patio with games, a photobooth, snacks and drinks followed by dinner and speeches in the ballroom. Unfortunately due to restrictions there was no dancing and everyone had to remain seated while indoors so that part stayed pretty tame ( until I left at least) .

Massive shout-out to these two beauties for trusting me to capture their "wedding day". It was an amazing and fun experience to photograph at a dream venue. I wish them a lifetime of love and endless adventures.
